Rare Vintage # 608 “later” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used

Maker:  Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT

A rare “later” Bedrock series 24” jack plane by Stanley.  Plane is a Type 5 produced in 1911.  The “later” series of Bedrock planes is characterized by the squared off top of the sides of the plane body, a taller front knob and a major innovation in the construction of the frog that is still utilized today by modern day makers of the original Bailey/Stanley type metal planes.  April 1995 and April 1910 patents cast into body behind frog.  Manufacturer’s trademark on iron reflects Type 5 plane iron.  Lever cap reads BED ROCK.  “608” embossed on nose of plain and BED ROCK embossed on plain body near rear.  This particular example reflects minimal wear from original use with some slight staining on one side near the end but overall is in excellent condition with about 80% + of the original Japanning intact.  Fully functional – iron needs sharpening/honing.
