Rare Vintage # 604 1/2 “later” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used

Maker:  Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT

A scarce “later” Bedrock 10” smoother plane by Stanley.  Plane is a Type 9 produced in 1927-1932.  This ”later” series of Bedrock planes is characterized by the squared off top of the sides of the plane body, a taller front knob and a major innovation in the construction of the frog that is still utilized today by modern day makers of the original Bailey/Stanley type metal planes.  Manufacturer’s trademark on iron consistent for the Type 7-10 planes produced from 1927 until the start of WW II.  Orange painted “STANLEY” cast into lever cap as seen in Type 9-12 lever caps.  This lever cap does not have the kidney shape bolt hole seen in the 10-12 types which dates it as a Type 9.   This particular example reflects average wear from original use with some staining on sides and sole but no cracks or chips throughout the piece. About 80% of the original Japanning is intact.  Fully functional – iron needs sharpening/honing.
